Malaysian Company G7 Aerospace Signed Collaboration Agreement with Turkish Aerospace

Malaysian aerospace company, G7 Aerospace Sdn Bhd signed a Collaboration Agreement on ANKA Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) with Turkish Aerospace Inc. at IDEF’23 in Istanbul. This agreement is preamble to a contract to be signed between both companies in Kuala Lumpur end of this month, the company said on July 27.

The Collaboration Agreement signed is to enable Turkish Aerospace implement ICP projects in conjunction with Government of Malaysia purchase of ANKA UAS for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). The ANKA UAS supply contract was recently inked during LIMA’23 in Langkawi, Malaysia. Eleven projects with a total ICP Value equivalent to the supply contract value will be implemented by Turkish Aerospace and managed by G7 Aerospace, making it part of Local Content, Lt Col (R) Ir. Kamarulzaman Zainal, Managing Director of G7 Aerospace told Asian Defence Journal on the side lines of IDEF’23.

Malaysia is among the most recent buyers of the ANKA type unmanned aerial vehicles, with three on order and possibly more in the near future. Indonesia has 12 similar drones on order with a number of it to be assembled in country by Turkish Aerospace’s local partner, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI).

The ANKA medium altitude, long endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles is designed by the engineers at Turkish Aerospace in cooperation with several local subcontractors. It first flew on Dec 30, 2010. The ANKA unmanned aerial vehicle can be armed. In 2018, during the course of Turkey’s Operation Olive Branch, the ANKA for the first time used the Smart Micro Munition, MAM-L.

G7 Aerospace also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with another major Turkish defence company, Havelsan, to collaborate on Avionics Depot Level Maintenance (DLM). This cooperation is to jointly support legacy aircraft currently operated by the Malaysian Armed Forces. Both companies will work in partnership on component level repair, modification and upgrade of aircraft avionics. –g7/adj/mhi (Pix: Turkish Aerospace)
