MALAYSIAN ARMY TESTS MILDEF HMAV 4X4 ARMORED VEHICLE

MARCH 25, 2021

After its public unveiling in February 2021, the MILDEF 4×4 High Mobility Armoured Vehicle (HMAV) has successfully organized its first round of testing at various training grounds throughout Malaysia, Asian Military Review reports.

Testing was conducted during nine days along 700 km of road and 300 km off-road by teams from the Malaysian Army and Defence Science and Technology Research Institute (STRIDE) as well as MILDEF, with driving duties performed by army personnel.

A Malaysian company based in Kuala Lumpur specializing in providing automotive services for the defense industry in Malaysia, MILDEF recently unveiled its HMAV intended for both the local and international markets. Designed to withstand munitions such as 7.62 mm armor-piercing rounds and mines, the HMAV is built to Stanag 4569 Level 2 military standard. Weighing 13.2 tonnes, the HMAV is powered by a 7,200cc Caterpillar Diesel engine producing 330 hp. This gives the HMAV a power to weight ratio of 24hp/tonne. During testing, the vehicle reached 110 km/h.
